Summer Mix: A Little Recap Before Fall
As summer 2025 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to look back on the outfits, fabrics, and little joys that defined the season! I stayed close to home in Southern California this year, of course I missed France a little, but I felt so grateful for the beauty nearby! Between the coast, the sunshine, and the little rituals that make each day feel special, I loved revisiting some of my favorite local spots that always make summer feel complete!
For me, a linen dress wasn’t just a dress, it was the perfect companion for a coastal walk! A butter-yellow blouse wasn’t just a pop of color, it was the reminder that style can be playful and uplifting! Worn together, these small details created a season that felt both effortless and memorable!
The Fabrics & Prints That Defined My Summer
This summer, my wardrobe circled around a few key fabrics and prints that carried me through hot days, breezy evenings, and everything in between:
Linen: The ultimate summer fabric, loved for its breathability and understated elegance. I wore it everywhere, wide-leg trousers for mornings at a café, blouses tucked into skirts, and dresses that felt chic without trying. Linen is a French summer staple because it balances ease with refinement.
Cotton: A forever classic that never fails in summer. From crisp cotton poplin shirts to breezy sundresses, cotton was a fabric I leaned on for comfort and structure.
Embroidery: Delicate embroidered details added a romantic touch to my blouses and dresses, making simple silhouettes feel feminine and special without being overcomplicated.
Polka dots: A print that felt both fun and timeless. It added a touch of whimsy to my neutral wardrobe and reminded me that French style doesn’t have to take itself too seriously.
Gingham: Another favorite, especially for dresses and skirts. There’s something so nostalgic and French countryside about it, and it brought a playful yet classic pattern into my summer looks.
Stripes: A forever French essential. From classic navy-and-white to softer beige versions, stripes were a print I reached for on repeat. They added instant structure and a touch of effortless chic to even the simplest outfits.
Butter yellow: My happiest color this season. Even in small doses, a blouse, a scarf, or an accessory, it lifted neutrals like cream, tan, and white, making them feel fresh.
Blue: From soft sky tones to deep navy, blue anchored my summer palette. Light blues felt breezy and coastal, while navy added polish and paired beautifully with neutrals as well as playful prints like stripes and gingham.
Cream and white: My forever summer staples. Crisp cottons, breezy dresses, and easy denim pairings in cream or white created a clean canvas for every look, balancing playful colors and prints with timeless simplicity.
A Few Standout Items
When I look back at what I truly lived in this summer, a handful of pieces stand out. They became the foundation of my wardrobe, styled on repeat and reimagined for every occasion:
Effortless linen pants: Lightweight and relaxed, yet instantly polished. I wore them with everything from simple tanks to embroidered blouses.
Cropped denim: Perfect for casual days, especially in lighter washes that paired seamlessly with feminine tops and woven sandals.
Feminine tops: Linen and embroidered blouses in soft tones like butter yellow, crisp white, and playful gingham became daily staples. They added a touch of romance to simple silhouettes.
Linen dresses: Whether in navy, brown, or gingham, these dresses struck the balance between chic and easy. They were my go-to for warm afternoons that often stretched into evening plans.
Maxi skirts: Flowing skirts in white and black proved endlessly versatile, dressed down with espadrilles or elevated with dainty heels.
Woven details: Raffia espadrilles, basket purses, and straw clutches carried me through nearly every outing. These natural textures instantly brought a French summer feel.
Dainty gold jewelry: Minimalist hoops, chains, and rings layered effortlessly, adding just enough polish without ever feeling heavy.
Each of these pieces became a repeat wear not just because they were beautiful, but because they were comfortable, easy to style, and endlessly versatile. They created the kind of wardrobe where getting dressed felt simple yet elevated, a reflection of what I love most about French-inspired style.
The Value of Timeless Pieces
One thing I love about building a wardrobe around pieces like these is that they’re not locked into a single season. Linen, polka dots, denim, maxi skirts, and subtle color accents are timeless by design. When your closet is filled with pieces that have structure, quality, and versatility, the transition from summer to fall becomes effortless. It’s not about buying a whole new wardrobe, but about evolving what you already love.
This philosophy is at the heart of French style: fewer pieces, worn more ways, layered intentionally. It’s a reminder that simplicity really is chic.
Looking Ahead to Fall
Speaking of layering, the piece I’m most excited about this season is the trench coat. Specifically cropped trench coats, which feel modern while still timeless. I already have two lined up and can’t wait to style them with denim, maxi skirts, boots and more!
I’m also drawn to deeper tones this year, navy, chocolate, and caramel, balanced with cozy knits and structured accessories. These shades will add richness to my summer neutrals without losing the light, effortless spirit I loved all season.
How to Transition Summer Outfits Into Fall 2025
If you’re looking to carry your summer wardrobe into fall, here are 4 simple ways:
Layer smartly: Don’t pack away linen yet. Pair it with heavier textures like wool or suede for a balanced look.
Shift your accessories: Swap woven bags for structured leather styles and sandals for loafers or boots.
Deepen the palette: Keep your creams and whites, but ground them with caramel, navy, or chocolate brown.
Play with prints: Polka dots are carrying beautifully into fall, and plaid is set to be one of the standout patterns of the season.
Final Thoughts
This Summer Mix is my way of celebrating the season while looking forward to what’s next. The fabrics, colors, and prints that defined my summer, from linen and cotton to gingham, polka dots, stripes, and sunny shades like butter yellow and blue, aren’t going anywhere. They’ll simply evolve, layered into fall with intention and ease!
It’s proof that timeless pieces carry us through every season, and that style is as much about how we live in our clothes as it is about the clothes themselves!
